Common Label Face Stocks
- Paper: Provides limited resistance to moisture, temperature, and chemicals. Paper applications are generally short-term, indoor application
- Polyethylene: Offers moderate stiffness and is breathable. This material stretches in all directions but tears easily. Designed for 6 months outdoor use. Is useful for labeling products that expand and contract.
lPolypropylene: Hard and rigid to the touch, but stretches in one direction. Is designed for 6 months outdoor use, but can withstand 2 – 3 years in certain applications. Also resistant to blood, oil and alcohol.
- Vinyl: General purpose film supplies excellent moisture resistance and outdoor durability. Can be flexible, solvent resistant, tamper-evident, flame retardant, abrasion and smudge resistant, and may be offered in various colors. Soft to the touch, flexible and formable but shrinks and stretches.
- Polyester: Rugged, high-performance film provides excellent outdoor durability, chemical resistance, and heat resistance in a wide range of applications. Polyester also boasts excellent dimensional stability and high tensile strength. Normally lasts outdoors for more than 2 years and resist temperatures up to 300 degrees. Popular applications include UL/CSA recognized nameplates, rating plates and fixed asset identification. Now available in a range of colors.
- Retro-reflective: This material, when used in conjuction with the appropriate barcode and scanner, can be scanned from long distances. The key component of this material is ground glass which helps deflect the infra-red beam of the scanner back to the scanner at full strength. This allows for far longer scans than any white label stock.
- Kapton: Trade name for Polyimide label materials. Very tough material, available in white or gold. It provides the highest level of performance to meet the most challenging applications. Offers extremely high temperature and chemical resistance and superior tensile strength and tear resistance. When used with the right topcoat/ribbon combination, Kapton labels are unaffected by the processes used in printed circuit board production.
