Labeling a warehouse with barcodes is not as easy as it may seem. There are typically racks of varying sizes, shapes, and material. There may be totes, bins, shelves, and/or cages. Often there is floor storage that has no structure to affix a label. There are pallets and/or cartons that are in constant motion. Labeling these items must take into account issues such as the equipment that will be used (man-up vs. man-down trucks), scanners to be used (short range, long range or fixed mount), distance and angle to be scanned (one inch or 100 feet, high bays, narrow aisles, etc.) and environmental conditions (extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, grease, etc).
There are a multitude of labels required in any warehouse. As you look around you need to ask yourself "Do I need rack labels, license plate labels for my pallets, retro-reflective labels for long distance scanning, reflective signs for bulk storage? Will I be using tote labels or bin labels?" But, you don't need to face this challenge alone. The label consultants at Unversal Label Technologies are with you every step of the way to assure a successful implementation.

Barcode and label technology bring automation and efficiency to the warehouse. Reflective labels on placards, color coded labels on racks and shelves, floor labels and pallet labels are all available from Universal Label Technologies.
*Reflective Labels on Placards -- For long-distance scanning - Reflective labels, also often referred to as retro-reflective labels are manufactured of a special material which can allow for the infra-red beam of a scanner to be returned to the scanner at greater strength, thus allowing the operator to scan from further away. Retro-reflective barcodes can be used as rack labels or on warehouse signs and dock door signs. Read our white paper on retro-reflective labels and long distance scanning to learn more.
